Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited the residence of Union minister Piyush Goyal in the national capital and performed 'aarti' on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister extended greetings on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Two terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter between terrorists and security forces at Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, police said. "Search is going on. Further details shall follow," the police said. The firefight started after a joint team of security forces got an input about the presence of terrorists in that area, and cordoned it off. At this, terrorists hiding there started firing, drawing retaliation by the security forces. On Tuesday, three LeT terrorists were killed in an encounter at Nagbal area in Shopian district.

After Delhi, the excise policy of the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has come under attack from the opposition party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) with a delegation of the latter, Wednesday submitting a memorandum to the Governor against the policy alleging a scam and urging upon him for CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the same. Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan held a bilateral meeting with Minister of Higher Education, Science, and  Innovation of South Africa Dr. Bonginkosi Emmanuel "Blade" NZIMANDE at Bali in Indonesia.  The Ministry of Education in a statement said, both the Ministers had fruitful discussions on strengthening the academic and skill development partnerships and bilateral education cooperation. They agreed to develop institutional mechanisms for tie-ups between Higher Education Institutions and skill institutions, mutual recognition of skill qualifications, and capacity building in skill development. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has reached the United Arab Emirates. He will co-chair the 14th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting and the third India-UAE Strategic Dialogue with Foreign Minister of UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.    During his three-day visit, Dr. Jaishankar will also meet other dignitaries of the UAE.  According to the External Affairs Ministry, these meetings will provide an opportunity to review the entire spectrum of comprehensive strategic partnerships between India and the UAE. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Science Conclave at Science City in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on the 10th of September. Science and Technology Ministers of all the States, Administrators of Union Territories, senior officials of various Ministries, Departments and CEO of over 100 Startups are expected to take part in the two-day conclave.   Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said, this time the conclave will be held in a different format with focus on new technologies and their optimum application for ease of living. Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch the Central Armed Police Forces' eAwas web-portal in New Delhi tomorrow.  The Ministry of Home Affairs said, increasing the Housing Satisfaction Ratio for CAPFs personnel is one of the priority areas of the Government. The Ministry said, in order to operationalise the revised policy of allotment and to also bring transparency to the allotment process, a common web-portal 'CAPF eAwas' has been developed. The web-portal will enable online registration and allotment of residential quarters to eligible personnel of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
