IAF Goes 'Desi': In a First, Raga-Based Fusion to Add Local Feel to Beating the Retreat Ceremony.

For the first time, the Beating the Retreat ceremony will have tunes based on Indian classical ragas in a bid to make the celebrations more ‘desi’.
In the last few years, the ceremony has seen massive changes to imbibe a nationalistic flavour. From replacing the classic ‘Abide With Me’ with ‘Aye Mere Watan ke Logon’, dropping Bollywood songs and now moving to Indian classical music, the elite ceremony is getting more localised.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to play four tunes for the ceremony based on the ragas. “We will be playing the tunes to give a more Indian feel and flavour to it," Director of Music for IAF LS Rupachandra said.

NIA conducts raids across Kashmir related to a militancy case.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched a number of places in Kashmir on Tuesday as part of an investigation into a case involving terrorist activity, according to officials. The searches were conducted in Srinagar and the south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, and Kulgam. “Searches were carried out in a case registered by NIA in Jammu last year,” they claimed. The case relates to a criminal conspiracy for carrying out terrorist and subversive actions that was hatched by the cadres, OGWs, and affiliates of numerous organisations that are outlawed, as well as their offshoots that operate under various aliases at the direction of their Pakistani masters.

SHILLONG, Jan 25: Duitara maker and musician Risingbor Kurkalang was awarded Padma Shri award in the field of Art (Folk Music) category. The award was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of Republic Day on Wednesday. Kurkalang who hails from Laitkyrhong village is a gifted craftsmen who has made a name for himself by making the best string instruments using the wood of the Jackfruit tree, U Dieng Slang, Puma and others. His instruments are being sold to various parts of the country including Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and others besides Shillong and several villages across Khasi Hills. The instruments are also on display at the Meghalaya Age stalls in New Delhi.
