Raksha Mantri reviews working of seven defence companies, carved out of OFB, on completion of one year of operations.

DGBR inspects important tunnel projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

Director General Border Roads Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry inspected important tunnel projects in Arunachal Pradesh during his visit to Sela Tunnel Project on September 29, 2022. He reviewed the progress of works at Sela Tunnel, which is one of the most vital and strategic projects in the region, having a total cost of Rs 687.12 crore.   Once constructed, Sela tunnel will be the longest bi-lane tunnel in the world at an altitude above 13,000 feet. Lining and Electric & Mechanical work of the tunnel are proceeding in full swing. The first blast of the tunnel was carried out on January 15, 2021. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh carried out last breakthrough blast of the tunnel on October 14, 2021 from New Delhi.   On the same road, the BRO has also completed excavation of 500 m long Nechiphu tunnel cutting through the foggiest stretches. This project, too, is on the verge of completion. The total cost of this tunnel is Rs 88.78 crore.  

SOUTH KOREAN NAVAL SHIPS VISIT CHENNAI.

Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy Cruise Training Task Group consisting of two naval ships, ROKS Hansando and ROKS Daecheong arrived in Chennai on a three-day visit on 28 Sep 22. Rear Admiral Kang Dong-goo, Commander of Cruise Training Task Group along with Capt Ko Dae-jong, Commanding Officer ROKS Daecheong, Cdr Park Jin-sung, Commanding Officer ROKS Hansando and other officials of the consulate of Korea had discussions with the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area on matters of common interest on 28 Sep 22. During the visit, professional interactions and friendly sports activities are scheduled between the personnel of the Indian Navy and ROK Navy. The goodwill visit strengthens the ties between the navies of the two nations. The task group led by Rear Admiral Kang Dong-goo is docked at Chennai port for a goodwill visit.

Government Steps to Improve Defence Industry manufacturing eco system are showing results: RM. Striking an optimistic note, Raksha Mantri said that Indian defence industry is progressing steadily  in partnership with private sector.”There was either no way for the private sector in the past  to enter the defence sector, and even if there was some scope, the industry was not ready to set foot in the defence sector due to various reasons”. These reasons were lack of political will, appropriate policy to incentivize their entry, high investment and long gestation period.   Raksha Mantri noted that the government has removed these bottlenecks and played the role of an incubator, catalyst, consumer and facilitator in the case of private industry. Saga of Freedom: Known & Lesser-known Struggle’  an exhibition organized by the National Archives of India has been extended till 30 th  October, 2022. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs on 12 th  August and was open for public viewing till 30 th  September 2022. The exhibition generated immense interest in public and thus the decision of extending the date is taken. The exhibition will be open for public viewing till 30 th  October from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. This exhibition is based on original government documents, cartographic records, newspapers, private papers, contemporary photographs and proscribed literature housed in the National Archives of India.

ONDC network starts beta testing with consumers in Bengaluru.

In a significant milestone, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), an initiative of the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India has opened its network to consumers in 16 locations across the city of Bengaluru. To begin with, consumers can place their orders in two domains – groceries and restaurants through buyer apps participating on the ONDC network. ONDC’s beta test in the city of Bengaluru is a major first step in operationalising a network approach to e-commerce as an alternative to platform centric approach. This will make e-Commerce landscape more inclusive, accessible and experience driven for all consumers and sellers. Consumers can now shop from multiple categories of products and services from a single buyer application of their choice. They can buy grocery products or order food from the stores and restaurants. In the coming weeks many more applications will join the network expanding both buyer and seller

This was stated by Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Dr Mansukh Mandaviya as the MoU of Madras Fertilizers Limited with M/s Agrifields, Dubai was presented to him, here today. In a significant step towards improving availability of DAP and NPK fertilizers for the farming community of the country, Madras Fertilizers Limited has signed an MoU for procuring 30,000 MT of Phosphoric Acid Solution from M/s Agrifields, Dubai annually for three years. Approximately 1.67 LMT NPKs will be produced by using this quantity of Phosphoric Acid. This will fulfil the P2O5 requirement to produce 59.6% of total installed capacity (2.8 LMT) of complex fertilizers of MFL.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi attended Maha Aarti at Gabbar Tirthal on the auspicious occasion of Navratri. Shri Modi also performed darshan and pooja at   Ambaji temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in Gujarat which is located close to Gabbar Tirthal. The Maha Aarti was conducted by the acharyas of the temple and a colossal photograph of Maa Durga was projected on the hills of  Mt. Abu mountain range with the help of laser lights. The fifth manifestation of Devi Durga is known as Maa Skandamata. She is fifth among Nava Durgas, that's why she is worshiped on the fifth Navaratri. Devi Maa is the mother of Kumara Skanda or Kumara Kartikeya also called Lord Murugan in south India. Kumar Skanda was chosen by the Gods as their commander in “Deva-Sura Sangram” (the war of gods & demons) against the demons. New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit is learnt to have recommended to the Centre the transfer of Chief Justice (CJ) of Orissa High Court, Justice S Muralidhar, as the CJ of the Madras High Court, sources said on Thursday. The collegium, which also comprised justices D Y Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul, met on Wednesday to deliberate upon issues including the transfer of high court judges, the sources told PTI. In the meeting, the collegiums resolved to transfer Justice Muralidhar in the same capacity to the Madras High Court. The apex court collegium is likely to come up with a statement on it, they said. Justice Muralidhar was initially appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court in May 2006 and later was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 6, 2020. He took oath as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court on January 4, 2021. Prior to this, the apex court collegium has recommended elevation of Chief Jus

Mumbai, Sep 29 (PTI) Auto parts maker Uno Minda on Thursday said it will set up a joint venture with Japanese firm Tachi-S Company to manufacture and market seat recliners for four-wheeler passenger vehicles in the country. Uno Minda is already present in the automotive seating systems for two-wheeler and commercial vehicles. The joint venture will help expand the company's product offering in this space in the four-wheeler passenger vehicle segment as well.

Kolkata, Sep 29 (PTI) Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said India will be the pillar of the global economic revival as it exhibited steady growth and emerged as the fastest-growing country among large economies of the world. Addressing the Bengal Chamber's annual general meeting virtually, he said if all stakeholders of the economy work together with a sense of 'Kartavya bhav' (spirit of duty), the national goal of USD 30-trillion economy will be achieved by 2047, the year when the country will celebrate 100th anniversary of its independence.. "India is already the fifth largest economy in the world and is turbocharging its growth to become the third largest in the coming years. The prime minister's vision is to make India a developed nation by 2047 with an economy size of USD 30 trillion as we will celebrate our 100th independence in that year," Goyal, the commerce and industry minister, said.  

Adani Enterprises' subsidiaries secure Rs 10,238 crore fund for Ganga Expressway Project in UP.

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) Adani Enterprises Ltd on Thursday said it's three wholly-owned subsidiaries have achieved financial closure for the access-controlled six-lane greenfield Ganga Expressway Project in Uttar Pradesh under public-private partnership mode. The company in a statement said it has secured finances of Rs 10,238 crore from lenders, and the concession period of the project shall be 30 years with traffic link extension provision of six years, including three years of construction period. "Budaun Hardoi Road Private Ltd (BHRPL), Hardoi Unnao Road Private Ltd (HURPL) and Unnao Prayagraj Road Private Ltd (UPRPL) –- wholly-owned subsidiaries of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) –- have achieved financial closure for the access-controlled six-lane (expandable to eight lane) greenfield Ganga Expressway Project (Group-II, III & IV) in Uttar Pradesh (UP) respectively on DBFOT (toll) basis under PPP mode," it said.

Washington, Sep 29 (PTI) The need to reform the UN Security Council cannot be denied forever, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said even as he noted that India never believed that revamping the top organ of the world body will be an easy process. India has been at the forefront of the years-long efforts to reform the Security Council, saying it rightly deserved a place as a permanent member in the United Nations. Currently, the UN Security Council has five permanent members -- China, France, Russia, the UK and the US. Only a permanent member has the power to veto any substantive resolution.  

CBI leads major crackdown against drug cartels; 127 cases registered, 175 arrested.

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) The CBI has led a massive countrywide crackdown on narcotics networks in coordination with the NCB, Interpol and police in multiple states, leading to the arrest of 175 alleged drug peddlers, officials said Thursday. As many as 127 FIRs have been filed by the agencies involved in 'Operation Garuda' which started earlier this week to "disrupt, degrade and dismantle" drug networks with international linkages, CBI said in a statement. The global operation was planned through a "rapid exchange" of intelligence on narco-trafficking and coordinated actions with enforcement agencies across international jurisdictions through Interpol, officials said.

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) In a significant ruling on reproductive rights of women, the Supreme Court held on Thursday that all women are entitled to safe and legal abortion till 24 weeks of pregnancy under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, and making any distinction on the basis of their marital status is "constitutionally unsustainable". The top court also said that the meaning of offence of rape must include marital rape for the purpose of the MTP Act. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, JB Pardiwala and AS Bopanna said the rights of reproductive autonomy give similar rights to unmarried women as that to married women. The bench, in its verdict, said the distinction between married and unmarried women under the abortion laws is “artificial and constitutionally unsustainable” and perpetuates the stereotype that only married women are sexually active. All  Public Sector Banks (PSBs)  will begin a special campaign drive from October 2 this year for filling up of the backlog vacancies of scheduled castes”, National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Chairman Vijay Sampla said, a day after conducting a review meeting which was jointly chaired by NCSC chairman and the union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the performance of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) on credit and other welfare schemes for scheduled castes. The NCSC chairman and finance minister had reviewed the various measures taken by PSBs in giving credit to persons belonging to the scheduled caste community and their welfare in terms of reservation, backlog vacancies, functioning of welfare and grievances redressal mechanism and other issues.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh says, "Science Leaders" are needed to drive the integration of science and technological development to address the needs of the citizen and the sector. The Minister addresses the launch of “Building Science Leaders Program” in New Delhi. 220 crore Aadhaar authentications done in August.

23.45 crore e-KYC transactions executed via Aadhaar in August. Almost 220 crore Aadhaar authentications done in August, Aadhaar usage and adoption continues to grow. UIDAI successfully executes 1.46 crore Aadhaar updation requests from residents during the month. 24.2 lakh fresh Aadhaar enrolments happened in August; Aadhaar saturation near universal among adults in India.  

Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Indian Navy visited Australia from 26 Sep – 28 Sep 22. This was his first official visit to Australia upon assuming the office of the CNS.

During the visit, he held meetings with Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, Chief of Navy, Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Vice Admiral David Johnston, Vice Chief of Australian Defence Forces, Mr Greg Moriarty, Secretary of Defence, Air Marshal Robert Chipman, Chief of Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Air Vice Marshal Mike Kitcher, Deputy Chief of Joint Operations. During these meetings, the leaders expressed their commitment to pursue collaborative activities in several areas of bilateral convergence. Admiral R Hari Kumar visited RAN facilities at HMAS  Penguin  and Hydrographic School. The CNS, accompanied by Shri Manpreet Vohra, Ambassador of India to Australia and the Chief of Navy, RAN interacted with the prominent members of Australian Think Tanks to understand and develop new maritime cooperation opportunities. The discussions also highlighted the need for raising the level of synergy and focused efforts for overcoming the challenges of the maritime environment.

Raksha Mantri visits forward areas of 3 Corps in Arunachal Pradesh; Takes stock of country’s defence preparedness along LAC.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the forward areas of 3 Corps in Anini, a village in Dibang valley of Arunachal Pradesh on September 29, 2022. He made an on-the-ground assessment of the country’s defence preparedness along the LAC by taking stock of the entire gamut of security-related aspects. Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command Lieutenant General RP Kalita and other senior officers of the Indian Army accompanied the Raksha Mantri who also interacted with the troops posted in the area. After his visit to the forward areas, the Raksha Mantri held an interaction with Armed Forces personnel in Tezpur, Assam. In his address, he commended the dedication and sacrifice of the soldiers posted at the borders, bravely protecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country.
